Description

The Fisher Original Astronaut Space Pen is exactly the same pen that has been used on all manned space flights since its maiden voyage in 1968 on Apollo VII. It is a heavy pen and the weight rests reassuringly in your hand as you write. The AG7 is made from solid brass with an extremely hard Chrome plating. It has a very positive and substantial click mechanism. You press down on the top to extend the refill and press the side button to retract the refill. It is attractively packaged in a heavy duty gift box with flock lining and comes with a pamphlet describing the history of the Fisher Space Pen.

The design and construction of this pen has not changed in over 40 years. The pen you buy today is exactly the same as the one taken to the moon in 1969. AG7s are used on all NASA Apollo and Shuttle missions, ISS International Space Station, Russian Soyuz and MIR space flights, French ARIANE Space Program, Everest North Face Ski Expedition.

Additional Info

Fisher Pens are the ultimate in dependability. Environmentally friendly, Fisher Pens are guaranteed to perform in temperatures from -30 to +250 degrees F, underwater, in zero gravity, in elevations up to 12,500 feet, and at any angle. Each has an ultra-hard Tungsten Carbide ballpoint precisely fitted in a stainless steel socket to prevent leaks and deliver constant, uniform ink flow. Fisher pens use thixotropic ink (a semisolid ink until the shearing action of the rolling ball liquefies it) in a hermetically-sealed, pressurized reservoir with a sliding float to separate the ink from the compressed nitrogen. Lasting 3-times longer than ordinary ballpoints, Fisher Space pens are hand-tested and carry an unconditional lifetime guarantee.

Product Review: Fisher Original Astronaut Space Pen

Fisher Space Pen Brand Story

When thinking about the overwhelming vastness of space and all the high-tech gear required even getting off of our planet, let alone walking on another, it is easy to overlook some of the little things that were intrinsic to the success of these missions to discover and research our universe. One of these small pieces that played a monumental part in these missions was the Fisher Space Pen. This type of pen was originally developed and patented in 1965 as an anti-gravity pen (AG7). Not only can this pen work write perfectly in space, it can perform in almost any extreme condition, in the heat of the desert, in the frozen tundra of the artic, even deep underwater and, if needed, upside down. All of this is thanks to the thixotropic ink-semisolid that controls the ink to only flow when wanted.

However, this particular type of pen proved most useful in the intense space race that was on between The USA and Russia. Fisher Space pens were used on the NASA Apollo 7 spacecraft in 1968 to record data and details of the trip. The Fisher Space Pen made it possible for clear and extensive notes to be taken to maximize the amount of information that could be acquired about these groundbreaking discoveries. From being used on a Mount Everest Expedition to the Russian Space Station Mir, the Fisher Space Pen combines quality craftsmanship with limitless versatility and very well may make anyone believe that this pen is indeed mightier than the sword.
