More of the Malie story: It was founded by a husband and wife team who moved to Kauai and fell in love with their island paradise. After connecting with their lush natural surroundings, they were moved to create a line of distinctly Hawaiian products that would also employ the talented local craftspeople and herbalists. The couple studied the local flora and incorporated the hydrosol distillation process in the development of their products.

Malie Kauai is a recognized leader in the movement to revive sustainable, organic agriculture in Hawaii, especially through their community efforts at Kilohana Farm. During the old plantation era, the local fields were used to grow sugar cane, relying heavily on pesticides and methods that robbed the soil of their nutrients. Now, with their dedication to sustainable, organic farming, the harmful chemicals have been removed from the fields and the soil has been revitalized with organic fertilizers.

Together, the farmers they work with are growing a variety of complimentary organic crops in a sustainable manner, including taro, pineapple, coffee, guava, other tropical fruit and flowers. They also grow their own organic ingredients, including Pikake (Hawaiian Jasmine), Double Pikake, Amy Gardenias, Kauai Mangos, Kauai Gold Pineapples, Singapore Plumeria, Kauai Coffee, Samoan Coconuts and Heaven's Scent Gardenia, which blooms year round.

Within the next couple of years, Malie Farms will be certified organic by the Hawaiian Organic Farms Association. In the meantime, they’re working together to restore the historic plantation and create a railway so that visitors can experience this exciting agricultural revival. The rich volcanic soil and wet weather on Kauai allows them to grow everything they need without dependency on the outside world, while contributing to a healthy, sustainable economy. With this thriving farm, they continue to organically grow the pure, exotic ingredients that make Malie Kauai so extraordinarily aromatic, beneficial and luxurious.
