Kathleen Lewis Stiff & Sore Cream

stiff & sore cream - as seen in self and yoga journal

Stiff and Sore Cream continually receives enthusiastic accolades - see the review from SELF at the bottom of this page! This is a super-moisturizing, super-healing treatment for sore muscles - without the super-medicinal smell. Stiff and Sore is wonderfully rich, extra-strength and 100% natural with a fabulously fresh, clean and minty fragrance. Use before and after activity to get quick and lasting relief for overworked muscles (especially effective at bedtime).

This inspired mixture includes arnica (a well-known homeopathic remedy) and comfrey for powerful anti-inflammatory action; aloe vera gel for soothing skin irritated by sun and chlorine; grapeseed oil for antioxidant moisturizing; peppermint essential oil to create heat; and tea tree essential oil for antibacterial properties.

Ingredients
Stiff and Sore Muscle Massage Cream is the newest product in the Kathleen Lewis line. Funny thing is, Kathleen has been making it for her family and friends for over ten years. Originally created for her husband, an ironman triathlete, “Stiff and Sore Muscle Massage Cream” has steadily gained popularity with other athletes who want the same optimum performance and fast recovery. The cream is named in honor of Kathleen’s grandfather, who when you asked him how he was, he always answered “stiff and sore”.
From SELF:
"Rub-a-dub-dub: Instant muscle soother Monday, October 20, 2008 at 12:56 PM | posted by Nicole Catanese
Kathleen Lewis, the mixmaster behind her namesake organic skincare and candle line, turned me on to her Stiff & Sore Muscle Massage by swearing that she ran a marathon with a mini size jar of the healing cream tucked inside her pocket. She had me at how she slathered it on her legs all along the 26.2 miles and didn't feel any of the inevitable tight muscles and insane soreness that erupts along the way. Some people may believe in "No pain, no gain," but my motto is if there's a chance of feeling less pain: Give it to me. I want it. Right now. I hit the pavement several times a week and recently have been pounding out some serious miles (we're talking in the double digits) as a 2008 NYC marathon-trainee. So believe me, I've tried my fair share of pain relievers: Tylenol, amino acid pills, ice bags, Epsom Salt baths, BenGay patches (I've even tested a super messy hand-mixed "Guru" oil that promised to heal just about any ailment on the body thanks to countless herbs)-- and the list goes on and on. What I do know is that all of the topical muscle soothers I've tried in the past have a malodorous odor and tingling sensation that I don't want to feel on my already chilled it's-cold-in-New York City windblown skin. Yesterday, before heading out for my final pre-race long run (an overwhelming 17 miler), I remembered the lightly-scented muscle rub that sits in my everything-sports-related-container (packed with EGels, Powerbars, CarboPro, salt tablets, etc.), thought of the long stretch that awaited me and coated my calves with the lovely-smelling lotion. Then I applied a second layer as soon as I walked in the door (OK, limped in the door). Not only did my calf cramps immediately lessen, I swear I woke up less sore this morning then ever before. And the list of au natural ingredients which includes grapeseed oil, aoe vera gel, beeswax, arnica (a proven circulation-booster that increases healing), comfrey, peppermint and tea tree essential oils, vitamin E and grapefruit seed extract, leaves no trace of the typical overpowering icky menthol odor to be found. Forget the teeny-tiny jar, I'm going to need a tub full before November 2nd rolls around."
